We’ve been trawling the Moor Allerton School archive and these are two of the very first school photographs we’ve uncovered. They date from the first few year’s of the school’s existence.

The school was founded in 1914 by Mr Wilfred Keble Rhodes and his wife (shown in the first picture) with approximately 6 children on the first register. The original school building stood on Palatine Road. During the War years, premises at the Ryleys School and Pownall Hall School were used and the school before moved to its current home on Barlow Moor Road.

Moor Allerton School originally prepared boys for entrance to independent boarding schools at the age of 13, and to grammar schools at 11. Girls weren’t admitted until 1981 when nursery and infant classes were also introduced.
