As the saying goes, ‘makes Jack a dull boy’, and Moor Allerton has a rich tradition of extra curricular events and activities, from dramatic productions to garden parties. This section digs into the school archives to present a sample of what went on. If you attended the school yourself, you might even remember a few…

Title

Well, that’s almost it for the Centenary celebrations at Moor Allerton. Last week we had our special open day for all our former pupils and staff followed by the Centenary summer garden party, and yesterday, it all culminated in the Centenary Spectacular “The Rhythm of Life” performed by the WHOLE SCHOOL and many of the teachers in two mega-performances at Stockport Plaza.

We’re sure everyone who went was thoroughly impressed with the efforts made by all involved resulting in the amazing array of entertainment on offer.

Most parents heeded Mrs Adams request not to take photos during the performance, but we from the Centenary website managed to sneak a camera out, and here are a few shots of the children thoroughly enjoying themselves during the grand finalé of the evening performance.

Well done, once again, to everyone involved. Who knows who will be looking at these photos in a hundred years time!

During the 1950’s it seems as though displays of this kind were a regular feature of Parent’s Days and other events at Moor Allerton School judging by the school’s old photograph albums. It can’t have been much fun being at the bottom of the pyramid, though it looks as though they put the biggest boys there, and put the smallest and lightest at the top!

Health and Safety legislation would probably rule out anything like this today – notice the complete lack of safety mats to provide a soft landing!

Rehearsals are in full flow and costumes are being put together for the school’s Centenary Spectacular production on July 2nd at Stockport Plaza.

Moor Allerton regularly puts on productions at this marvellous theatre. Here. we’ve collected together some photos of the school production from 2009. That’s not so long ago, so hopefully if you are reading this, you’ll have some memories of this event. Tell us about it. What was the theme? Is that one of your children , or older brothers or sisters up there on stage?

Let us know in the comments box below.

This first weekend of June sees Moor Allerton proudly joining the annual parade of the Didsbury Festival, as it has done for many years before.
Here are some pictures taken over the last ten years at the event.

Some more extra-curricular activities captured for posterity here – some of them closer to home in the form of science, stamp collecting and chess clubs, as well as a music group and some more outward bounds boys.

Not all of the learning is done in the classroom at Moor Allerton. At some point during their time at the school, pupils get to go further afield on field trips and study visits.

Here are some snaps taken at some point during the early 80s on various trips. Do you recognise yourself or anyone else on the photos, or any of the locations?

If you do, please let us know.

1988 Line Ups

February 27th, 2014 | Posted by ma100admin in 1980s | All work and no play.... | Sports teams - (0 Comments)

In 1988, there was a lot happening at Moor Allerton, as these various line-ups of sports teams and musical groups taken in the summer term show.

Just in time for twelfth night, with Christmas seeming such a long time ago, here are some pictures taken at Moor Allerton’s 1961 nativity play.

Today is the last day of term and parents, staff and pupils have been enjoying the end of term assemblies and productions. The school is gearing up for something quite spectacular for the summer term production to celebrate the centenary. But let’s take this chance to look back over 75 years to the kind of show the Moor Allerton of the 1930s put on at Christmas.

Remember, in those days, Moor Allerton was a boys-only school, so the lads had to dress up as lasses if the role required!

There’s not too much with a Christmas focus in the school archive, so if you have any photos, videos, programmes or any materials relating to Christmas at Moor Allerton over the decades, please let us have it to add to our history of the school.

Happy Christmas!

Moor Allerton School Production 1933We are sure you all enjoyed the end-of-term spectacular production at Stockport Plaza earlier this month.

Throughout the summer break, we are continuing to scan and upload items from the school archive, and we’ve just come across this fascinating picture of the school production from exactly 80 years ago, in 1933!

We doubt you’ll have photos older than this, but if you have a any photos, videos or examples of programmes from Moor Allerton school productions from any period in the last hundred years, we’d love to have them for the site.
